北京時間1月31日晚上9點，第78屆奧斯卡提名名單宣布。《斷背山》不負眾望奪得了影片、導演、男主角、男配角、編劇、配樂等在內的8項提名，遙遙領先。
《晚安，好運》、《藝伎回憶錄》、《撞車》也都獲得了6項提名，不過“藝伎”並未獲得最佳影片提名，章子怡也榜上無名。倒是事先被很多協會“冷落”的《慕尼黑》殺出重圍，擠掉了音樂傳記片《走在路上》占了最佳影片最後壹個席位。
外語片方面，《無極》的出局並不讓人驚訝，入圍的《天堂此時》、《聖誕快樂》、《索菲·紹爾：希望與反抗》和《黑幫暴徒》也都是早在人們意料之中的，倒是意大利影片《別說》有些讓人意外。
總的來說，今年的提名沒有多少驚喜，基本上還是在重復著幾大協會和金球獎的名單，而且由於缺少高水准的大制作，今年奧斯卡幾乎都是小成本影片的天下，因此提名非常分散，沒有前幾年壹部影片得到拾幾項提名的景象，非常的平穩。
