美國副總統萬斯（JD Vance）言論壹向「惹火」，他近日接受媒體采訪時再次語出驚人，聲稱全球化經濟令美國「向中國鄉下佬（peasants）借錢，去買那些中國鄉下佬制造出來的產品。」此言論壹出，立即惹來美國網民熱議和猛烈抨擊。
美國媒體Buzzfeed4月6日報道，在壹段霍士新聞的采訪影片中，萬斯談到特朗普（Donald Trump，又譯川普）政府的對華貿易政策時指：「我覺得我們都應該退壹步問問自己，到底全球化經濟給美國帶來了甚麼？簡單來說，它是基於兩個原則：我們承擔巨額債務，去購買其他國家為我們生產的東西。」（What has the globalist economy gotten the United States of America? It's based on two principles. Incurring huge amount of debt to buy things other countries made for us)

萬斯進壹步指：「更直接地說，我們向中國的鄉下佬借錢，去購買那些中國鄉下佬生產出來的貨品。」(We borrow money from Chinese peasants to buy the things those Chinese peasants manufacture)
萬斯強調：「這並非實現國家繁榮的秘訣。我們必須帶領這個國家走向不同的方向。 」
據Buzzfeed的報道，如果副總統萬斯要做壹件事，那就是讓所有的美國人尷尬和難堪。
有網民表示，他這番言論頗具諷刺意味。當他提到「鄉下佬」的時候語氣很刻薄，盛氣凌人。有人或會以為他生於寒門的成長經歷會令他更有同情心，但事實卻恰恰相反。
另壹名網民附和這個觀點：「最瘋狂的是，這個人還寫了壹本關於在美國阿帕拉契（Appalachia）貧困地區成長的暢銷書。」（這裡指的是萬斯撰寫的《絕望者之歌：壹個美國白人家族的悲劇與重生》（Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis）
