據印度傳媒報道，新德裡當地時間周壹（10日）晚，壹輛汽車在知名景點紅堡附近發生爆炸，現場多輛車冒出火焰和濃煙。警方發言人稱，事件造成8人死亡，爆炸具體原因仍在調查中。
新德裡警察局長Satish Golcha表示，爆炸發生在晚上6點52分左右，壹輛緩慢行駛中的汽車停在紅燈處，隨後發生爆炸，附近車輛也受損。
綜合印度亞洲國際新聞（ANI）和新德裡電視台（NDTV）報道，爆炸發生後至少11人受傷，多名傷員被送往醫院。消防部門官員AK Malik表示，接到報桉後立即派出7個消防隊到場，火勢於當晚7：30許得到控制。

爆炸發生後，除新德裡外，毗鄰新德裡的北方邦（Uttar Pradesh）和西部沿海的孟買均進入高度戒備狀態。
事發地點為新德裡知名旅游景點紅堡（Red Fort）地鐵站外，該地位於人口密集的老城區，全年吸引游客到訪。附近壹間商店店長稱：「我從來沒聽過這麼大的爆炸聲。我因為爆炸摔倒了叁次。感覺我們好像都要死了。」
