美國中央司令部（U.S. Central Command）7月15日表示，在美國東部時間上午6時（香港時間下午6時）起，美軍部隊對伊朗展開新壹輪、長達90分鍾的攻擊，攻擊伊方在大通布島（Greater Tunb Island）上的海岸防御系統，以及巡航導彈儲存和發射陣地。
大通布島位於霍爾木茲海峽，伊朗1971年從後來的阿聯酋手中奪取，該島被視為海峽中的戰略要地。
美方在社交網站發布帖文指，這些打擊旨在進壹步削弱伊朗軍隊用於攻擊霍爾木茲海峽（Strait of Hormuz）商船航運的軍事能力。

美軍中央司令部之後再發聲明指，於美東時間上午7時30分（香港時間晚上7時30分）完成對伊朗的打擊行動，在90分鍾的攻擊中，美軍出動精確制導彈藥，攻擊在大通布島（Greater Tunb Island）上的海岸防御系統，以及巡航導彈儲存和發射陣地，行動進壹步削弱伊朗在霍爾木茲海峽襲擊商船的能力。

這是美軍連續第5天攻擊伊朗，伊朗伊斯蘭革命衛隊（IRGC）7月15日則表示，已針對位於巴林（Bahrain）的美國第伍艦隊發動襲擊，打擊其指揮控制、後期、燃料以及軍備設施，並稱此舉是作為回應美國在印度洋的行動、控制霍爾木茲海峽和限制航運路線的回應。
